HIGHLIGHTS

  • Vilnius - the capital of Lithuania, located in the centre of Europe. The city is both contemporary and ancient, rich in architecture with historical monuments, cultural heritage and has to offer various thematic festivals and entertainments. It is considered that Vilnius is one of the greenest European capitals - a compact city filled with parks and squares.
  • Ignalina - since ancient times, the Ignalina district, located in the eastern part of Lithuania, is famous for its picturesque localities. Here, you can find one of the highest peaks in Lithuania – Budakalnis and Nevaišiai hill. The land of Ignalina is surrounded by over 200 lakes, several tens of rivers, and ponds.
  • Palūšė - the treasures of this corner of nature are spectacular and can be found by both water lovers and the ones, looking for authentic cultural heritage. Visit the Palūšė church, which is one of the oldest wooden prayer houses in the country, stop by Ginučiai Water Mill, where 19th-century equipment and the history of bread are preserved, go to the Stripeikiai Ancient Beekeeping Museum, which reveals the secrets of bees.
  • Beekeeping Museum - a museum, established by the shore of Tauragna river, is the only museum of such kind in Lithuania, which cherishes the traditions of beekeeping.
  • Zarasai - a city with seven lakes in northeast Lithuania. It is a paradise full of hills, lakes, and forests, which from the old times was known as Lithuanian Switzerland. Visitors have the opportunity to admire the view of the wonderful Zarasai Lake and its islands from a large observation point in the city. The observation point is seventeen meters above the ground, and its structure is one of the most complex architectural buildings in Lithuania.
  • Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant - nuclear power station in Visaginas Municipality, Lithuania. It was named after the nearby city of Ignalina. Due to the plant's similarities to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in terms of reactor design and lack of a robust containment in the building, Lithuania agreed to close the plant as part of its accession agreement to the European Union. Unit 1 was closed in December 2004.
