The highlight of Aukštaitija region is the Salų Ethnoarchitectural Village, located in the Ignalina district. This village is located on the shores of Lake Alksnas, surrounded by forests and lakes, near Ladakalnis and Ginučiai mound.
The village is one of the few surviving villages of this type in Lithuania.
In this village, there is a regional operating unit of the Lithuanian Folk Museum, built according to the eco-museum model. An authentic exposition has been formed in the museum, presenting the architectural features of these buildings and cultural heritage (customs, crafts, folklore). A hut and a barn are used for visitor accommodation, and a former barn building is being used for events (exhibitions, community meetings).
