When visiting Aukštaitija National Park, do not miss the opportunity to see the ethnographic village of Strazdai, located between Lake Baluošas and the forest, next to about 400-year-old oaks.
A rare exhibit in this village’s museum – smoke hut that was built in the 19th century. You can also find some wonderful nature pieces in this village, such as maples, ashes, oaks and rowan. Since 1971 the village is included in the list of architectural monuments.
It is believed that this village was first mentioned in written sources in 1783 in the name of Balašekulis, and in 1798, the inventory of “Ažvytis key” already describes a big family of forest ranger Jurgis Strazdas, living in this village.
