Our latest route that we would like to present is the route around Dieveniškės Historical Regional Park. It is a park located southeast of Šalčininkai in order to preserve and manage the landscape and ethnocultural complexes of Dieveniškės area.
Our first stop in this park is the Poškonių barrows. The burial mound consists of a group of 24 burial mounds located at the top of the hill and its slopes. The largest barrow is 22 m in diameter and 1.8 m high.
Burial mounds are the graves of our ancestors. They appeared by pouring ground over the buried dead. Stone arrangements were are often found, placed around the burial mound, which, according to the ancient people’s faith, had to protect the dead from evil spirits.
