We have already presented our first route around Dzukija. Let’s get going! We are starting our new route around Zemaitija region and the seaside, and the first stop we would like to introduce you to is Rusne Island. Rusne Island is a truly unique corner of nature – it is not only the only island in Lithuania, famous for its landscape and preserved old wooden architecture, but is also considered as the capital of the most delicious smoked fish.
Did you know? The Peters Bridge, built across the Atmata River in 1914, had become the main road for anyone travelling to the island. At the end of World War II, the bridge was blown up, but 30 years later, in 1974, a new bridge was built next to the old one. Today, it is the main road to access the island for Rusne Island people and tourists.
